Death risk drops by 65%

A phase 2 clinical trial with 109 participants found that a daily 1,000 mg oral dose of vitamin C was associated with a 65% lower risk of death compared to placebo over a three-year follow-up. The study was led by researchers from the University of Copenhagen and the Van Andel Institute.

Field
drugs and trials
What they did
Researchers conducted a clinical trial where 109 participants received 1,000 mg of vitamin C daily, finding that this reduced the risk of death by 65% compared to a placebo group.
Why it matters
This could be beneficial for people at risk of leukemia, as vitamin C levels are often chronically low in patients with blood cancers, and increasing these levels might serve as a new therapy.
