Cancer research: new ways to detect and treat cancer, studies and trial results.
A phase 3 clinical trial confirmed the efficacy of the world's first personalized mRNA vaccine against melanoma. Results presented at the 2026 European Society for Medical Oncology Congress and set for publication in the New England Journal of Medicine exceed researchers' expectations.
A clinical trial showed that combining a personalized cancer vaccine with immunotherapy reduced the risk of death or melanoma recurrence by 42%, while lowering melanoma spread risk by 38% over two years. Manufacturers MSD and Moderna are already testing this approach against other tumors.
Phase 1 data showed tumor shrinkage in all 16 patients with uveal melanoma after receiving experimental cell therapy. Results suggest the therapy could unlock immunotherapy power for other stubborn cancers.
