Saliva detects signs of heart failure

USC researchers developed the Lollylab device, which analyzes saliva for acetaminophen presence. The analysis takes approximately 60 seconds, making health checks less unpleasant for children.

Field
medicine and diagnostics
What they did
Researchers from the University of Southern California developed a device called Lollylab, which uses a graphene sensor to analyze saliva in about 60 seconds.
Why it matters
This allows testing for acetaminophen (an ingredient in many painkillers and cold/flu medicines) to be administered as a lollipop, making medical checkups less unpleasant for children.
