Concept design operates stably for over 72 hours under light
Researchers at Nanyang Technological University built a system that produces hydrogen from seawater and degrades hydrazine. Tests showed hydrazine concentration dropped from 0.5 M to 0.5 ppb in about 30 hours.
- Field
- energy and batteries
- What they did
- Researchers developed a solar-powered device that produces hydrogen from seawater while simultaneously cleaning it by degrading the toxic pollutant hydrazine.
- Why it matters
- This enables stable hydrogen production for over 72 hours and reduces hydrazine concentration in water to levels more than 20 times below the US EPA's permissible limit.
